#1 – Retrospec Solana Yoga Mat

We’ve purchased mats before that claimed to be “thick” or even “extra thick” but they only ended up being what we’d class as a standard yoga mat. You can see in the photo that this one really is very nice and thick. It is amazing to be able to kneel or put weight on the mat without feeling like you’re on concrete.

Some feedback from people who bought the Retrospec Solana Yoga Mat said:

“We’ve used ours on hard wood floors and those really have no give at all. There’s no carpet or padding underneath, just the soft squish of the mat and it’s perfect”.

“The mat itself isn’t rough but does have just enough texture to not be slippery to stand on or slide if you’re using it on a slippery surface. I can do all the jumping and dance moves easily, the mat absorbs everything”.

It’s truly so comfy you could sleep on it!

Not only is it the ideal mat when you are using it, it comes with its own carrying strap sized to perfectly fit this ultra thick mat.

#2 – Manduka PRO Yoga Mat

The fact that this mat is eco-conscious is considered a major benefit for us. Its Oeko-Tex certification and chemical-free construction align with yogic values. We believe in using products that aren’t just good for us, but also gentle on our environment.

The mat’s overall size is impressive, with a length of 71 inches, it’s an excellent choice for anyone who’s tall or even just prefers a bit more room during their yoga or Pilates sessions. I found the extra space was quite convenient, especially during stretches that needed a wider range of movement.

Some feedback from people who bought the Manduka PRO Yoga Mat said:

“It’s THE MOST padded, supportive mat we’ve ever used and we haven’t found anything close. We tested out a much thinner, travel Manduka mat, thinking it would be nice to have a lighter mat to carry while travelling, but in the end we didn’t use it for more than a week before going back to the PRO”.

“One of the main features I like about the Manduka PRO mat is it the grippiest yoga mat around. The mat stayed in position and non-slippery even during intensive sessions or hot yoga classes where I was sweating. This helped put my mind at ease about my concerns of slipping, it just let me concentrate fully on my practice”.

“I’ve got to love the idea of buying a product that will be the last of that one item we’ll ever need- meaning I’m contributing less into landfill”.

#3 – Gaiam Premium Yoga Mat

The thickness of the mat is lovely, gave us plenty of cushioning without being overly thick like some of the memory foam type mats on the market today.

It’s thicker than other mats, which supported my wrists while I was practising yoga on hardwood flooring.

Some feedback from people who bought the Gaiam Premium Yoga mat said:

“All in all, this mat feels sturdy. It was one of the more grippier mats I’ve tried and had plenty of cushioning when doing poses on my hands and knees. And it has a really modern design and little to no noticeable scent that reviews for other similar products often have”.

“It does have a strong odor out of the box but I wiped it down and left it outside, under cover for a few days and all gone!”

We’d say it’s a a great, budget friendly option that is excellent value for your money.

#4 – Umineux Yoga Mat

We’ve tested this mat over a period of a few months and it seems to be exactly what it states. It’s thick enough to provide a bit of cushioning where we need it, especially for your hands when doing a downward dog or a plank.

It’s constructed from eco-friendly material that’s recyclable which is a great bonus. Its soft on your skin and very lightweight, making it really easy to cart around to and from sessions.

Some feedback from people who bought the Umineux Yoga Mat said:

“We didn’t think that the lines and decorations on the mat would be of much use but I actually find myself lining up my feet and hands with the markings on the mat. I’ve found that really fun to work with it and it’s helped to stay aligned during practice”.

“Also, the mat seems pretty durable so far. It provides friction so you don’t slip on your sweat and the mat hasn’t torn one bit. The back of the mat grips my laminate floors really well. It doesn’t slide at all with those double sided textured patterns”.

“It’s also just super cute! Colors and patterns are true to pictures. Also comes with a strap so you can carry it and keep it rolled up. Super easy to use”.

#5 – BalanceFrom All Purpose Yoga Mat

For those of us with knee or back issues, this mat will make our life much easier and it will also make it more likely that you’ll have the confidence keep up with your exercise.

If you’ve had knee surgeries or replacements, this yoga mat is your dream come true. Because of the extra cushioning with this mat you can get back to your yoga classes sooner than later. It’s got enough cushioning that you can once again get down on the floor, do your exercises, and hopefully be able to get back up as well. You can enjoy your workouts without worrying about being in pain from pressure on your knees.

Some feedback from people who bought the BalanceFrom All Purpose Yoga Mat said:

“We love that this mat is easily washed with soap and water. Put it outside to dry and away you go again”.

“Both sides of the mat are non-slip and this prevents any injuries occuring. This product is durable, a bit bulky, due to it’s thickness, but in general very good value!”

#6 – IUGA Pro Yoga Mat

As you can see we’ve been testing out lots of mats that claim to be non slip, some are and some aren’t. Some of them we’ve had to shorten our downward dog so we don’t slip, and modify other poses too – otherwise our hands or feet wouldn’t stay in place.

This mat is lightweight (eg not one of the heavy all-rubber ones) and completely non slip both for the floor and for hands and feet. It’s actually a relief to finally use this nonslip mat and enjoy yoga so much.

Some feedback from people who bought the IUGA Pro Yoga Mat said:

“My poses feel better on this mat because it actually holds my feet and hands in place! It is on the thicker side (eg not a flimsy thin mat) and the back is similar to the back of a mousepad. The top of the yoga mat is rubber-like, sturdy, durable. So you only use one side of the mat”.

“The only time I need to use my hand towel during class is when I’m doing a super hot (~110 degree) hot yoga class and I have to wipe away sweat from my hands a few times. For most classes that are ~90 degrees I do not have any issue with too much sweat”.

We didn’t notice a smell at all out of the box – no fumes or off gassing – no ends stuck in a curl, and we were able to use it straight away.

#7 – Gaiam Cork Yoga Mat

When we were just playing around with this mat the cork felt kind of soft and slippery. Once we started using it for the intended purpose, our yoga session was great! I think it only becomes grippy once your hands start sweating a little bit. The bottom of the mat stays in place nicely. The cork material does seem to suction to the skin which is good for avoiding any awkward sounds!

We recommend this yoga mat to beginners because it’s fairly inexpensive for a cork mat. It’s really lightweight and comfortable to use.

Some feedback from people who bought the Gaiam Cork Yoga Mat said:

“I used this mat everyday for 3 months and haven’t seen any wear and tear on it at all yet. Every single morning I bring out my mat and sweat on it during my yoga workout”.

“This mat has met our expectations as it’s held together, doesn’t slide around during my workouts, and most of all provides stability while standing on it with sweaty feet”.
